SNAP 2024 Exam Pattern Overview

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) is a computer-based online test conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU) for admission to MBA and other management programmes across 16 Symbiosis institutes. The test is of 60 minutes duration with 60 questions carrying 1 mark each, totalling 60 marks.

Section-wise Structure

Question Types

All 60 questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options. Starting from SNAP 2022, the Special Questions (SQ) category worth 2 marks has been discontinued; all questions now carry equal weightage of 1 mark each.

Negative Marking Rules

• Correct answer: +1 mark
• Wrong answer: −0.25 marks (one-fourth negative marking)
• Unattempted question: 0 marks (no penalty)

Time Management

There is no section-wise time limit; candidates can move freely between sections within the 60-minute window. SNAP is typically conducted in multiple slots across two or three dates in December, and a candidate's best score across attempts is considered for shortlisting. The test is conducted at designated Prometric test centres across India.

1. General English: Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning & Verbal Ability

• Reading Comprehension passages (500–800 words) with inference, tone, and main idea questions
• Vocabulary: synonyms, antonyms, analogies, odd word out
• Fill in the blanks (grammar-based and vocabulary-based)
• Sentence correction and error spotting (subject-verb agreement, tense, prepositions)
• Para-jumbles and sentence sequencing
• Idioms and phrases specific to formal/business English
• Critical reasoning: assumption, inference, strengthening/weakening arguments
• Verbal analogies and word relationships

2. Analytical & Logical Reasoning

• Seating arrangement (linear, circular, rectangular)
• Blood relations and family tree puzzles
• Direction sense and distance problems
• Coding-decoding (letter shifting, number coding, symbol coding)
• Syllogisms and Venn diagram-based questions
• Statement and conclusions / statement and assumptions
• Series completion: number series, letter series, alphanumeric series

3. Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency

• Arithmetic: Percentages, profit & loss, simple & compound interest, ratio & proportion, time-speed-distance, time & work, mixture & alligation
• Algebra: Linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, functions, progressions (AP/GP)
• Geometry & Mensuration: Triangles, circles, polygons, area and volume of 2D/3D figures, coordinate geometry basics
• Number System: HCF, LCM, divisibility rules, remainders, prime numbers, factorials, unit digit problems
• Modern Maths: Permutation and combination, probability, set theory
• Data Interpretation: Bar graphs, line charts, pie charts, tables, mixed DI sets; calculation of percentages, ratios, averages from given data
• Data Sufficiency: Two-statement DS problems requiring identification of whether given data is sufficient to answer a question — no actual calculation needed

Know the SNAP Exam Pattern

SNAP 2024 is a 60-minute computer-based test with 60 questions across three sections: General English (15 questions), Analytical & Logical Reasoning (25 questions), and Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (20 questions). Each correct answer carries 1 mark; wrong answers attract a 25% negative marking penalty (0.25 marks deducted). Prioritise the Reasoning section as it carries the highest weightage.

• Analytical & Logical Reasoning: A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal.
• Quantitative Aptitude: Quantitative Aptitude for CAT by Arun Sharma, How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma. Focus on arithmetic, algebra, and basic data interpretation.

Study Schedule

Dedicate at least 8–10 weeks before the exam. Spend the first four weeks strengthening fundamentals — cover all three sections systematically, devoting 2–3 hours daily. Weeks five and six should focus on revision and targeted practice of weak areas. Reserve the final two weeks exclusively for full-length mock tests and error analysis.

Mock Test Strategy

SNAP allows candidates to appear in up to three sessions in a year (typically held in December). Attempt at least 15–20 SNAP-specific mock tests from platforms like TestFunda, Career Launcher, or the official Symbiosis portal. After every mock, analyse incorrect answers — especially in Reasoning — to identify recurring patterns. Since the exam is only 60 minutes long, practice time management rigorously: aim to spend no more than 40–45 seconds per question on average.

Exam-Day Tips

Carry your SNAP admit card and a valid government-issued photo ID to the test centre. Log in to the exam portal 15 minutes before the scheduled time for online proctored attempts. Avoid guessing randomly — the 0.25 negative marking can significantly impact your final score, especially at competitive cut-offs for top Symbiosis institutes like SIBM Pune and SCMHRD. Attempt the section you are most confident in first to build momentum.

Special Note on Multiple Attempts

Since SNAP 2024 offers three test slots, use your first attempt as a real-time benchmark, review weak areas between sessions, and aim for incremental improvement. Your best percentile across all attempts is considered for final shortlisting.

SNAP Counselling & Admissions Process (2024–25)

SNAP does not have a centralised counselling body like JoSAA (for JEE) or MCC (for NEET). Admissions to all 17 Symbiosis institutes (SIUs) that accept SNAP scores are conducted independently by each Symbiosis institute under the umbrella of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune. The overall process is as follows:

1. SNAP Score Release & Percentile Declaration: After the final SNAP session (usually late December), SIU publishes the overall percentile on the official SNAP website (snaptest.org). Candidates are shortlisted based on their best percentile across all attempts.
2. Applying to Individual Institutes (SIU Registration): Candidates must separately register and pay the application fee for each Symbiosis programme they wish to apply to (e.g., SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, SIIB, SIMSR). This application is done via the respective institute's portal. Each institute has its own SNAP cut-off percentile for shortlisting.
3. GE-PIWAT Shortlisting: Shortlisted candidates are called for Group Exercise (GE), Personal Interaction (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds conducted at the respective institute's campus. Dates and venues are communicated directly by each institute, typically in January–February.
4. Merit List Preparation: Each institute prepares its final merit list based on a composite score: SNAP Score (50%) + GE-PIWAT performance (50%). The exact weightage varies slightly by institute.
5. Seat Allotment & Offer Letter: Selected candidates receive an offer letter from the institute. Institutes typically conduct 2–3 rounds of allotment to fill all seats, with waitlist movement notified via email and the institute portal.
6. Document Verification: Candidates must submit original documents including 10th and 12th mark sheets, graduation degree/mark sheets (or provisional certificate), SNAP scorecard, caste certificate (if applicable), and identity proof at the institute's admissions office.
7. Fee Payment & Enrolment: Accepted candidates pay the first-semester tuition fee (varies by institute; SIBM Pune fees are approximately ₹9–11 lakhs for the full MBA programme) to confirm their seat. Non-payment within the stipulated deadline results in forfeiture of the allotted seat.
8. Reporting to Campus: Final enrolled students report to their respective Symbiosis campus for orientation and commencement of the MBA/PGDM programme, typically in June.

Important: There is no state-level or centralised counselling for SNAP. Each of the 17 participating Symbiosis institutes manages its own admissions independently. Candidates should track deadlines and communications from every institute they applied to separately.
