WBJEE 2026 Cutoff Scores
WBJEE cutoff is the minimum score required by candidates to qualify the examination and become eligible for the next stage of admission. The cutoff is determined by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) based on factors like total number of candidates, difficulty level of the paper, and availability of seats. The exam is conducted for a total of 200 marks. Candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) generally have lower cutoff scores compared to the General category.
Cutoff Data Not Yet Available
WBJEE 2026 cutoff scores will be published after the results are declared. Check back for updates.
How WBJEE Cutoff is Determined
Difficulty Level
The overall difficulty of the question paper directly affects cutoff scores.
Number of Candidates
Higher participation generally leads to higher cutoff scores due to increased competition.
Available Seats
The total number of seats across participating institutes impacts how many candidates qualify.
Reservation Policy
Different cutoffs apply for General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD categories as per government norms.

WBJEE Preparation Tips
Know the Syllabus and Exam Pattern
WBJEE tests Mathematics (Paper 1, 100 marks) and Physics + Chemistry (Paper 2, 100 marks). Each paper has three categories of MCQs with different marking schemes — Category 1 (1 mark, −¼ penalty), Category 2 (2 marks, −½ penalty), and Category 3 (2 marks, no negative marking). Mastering this structure helps you allocate time and manage risk on exam day.
Recommended Books by Subject
- Mathematics: NCERT Class 11 & 12 (foundation), S.L. Loney for Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry, Hall & Knight for Algebra, I.A. Maron for Calculus
- Physics: H.C. Verma Concepts of Physics Vol 1 & 2, D.C. Pandey for practice problems, NCERT for theory
- Chemistry: NCERT Class 11 & 12 (essential for Inorganic), O.P. Tandon for Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, P. Bahadur for Physical Chemistry numericals
Focus on High-Weightage Topics
In Mathematics, prioritise Calculus (Differentiation, Integration, Differential Equations), Algebra (Complex Numbers, Matrices, Permutations & Combinations), and Coordinate Geometry — these collectively account for over 60% of questions historically. In Physics, concentrate on Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics, and Modern Physics. In Chemistry, Organic Chemistry reaction mechanisms and Electrochemistry are frequently tested.
Build a Structured Study Schedule
Dedicate at least 6–7 hours daily: 3 hours to Mathematics, 2 hours to Physics, and 1.5 hours to Chemistry. Rotate subjects each session to prevent fatigue. Reserve one day per week exclusively for revision and mock tests. Begin full-length mocks at least 10 weeks before the exam date (typically held in April/May).
Mock Test and Previous Year Paper Strategy
Solve WBJEE previous year papers from 2018 onwards — the Board's question style and difficulty level are consistent. Attempt at least 20 full-length mock tests under timed conditions. After each mock, analyse wrong answers by category: conceptual gaps, careless errors, or time pressure. Target accuracy above 85% before the actual exam.
Manage Negative Marking Carefully
Category 1 and 2 questions carry negative marks, so avoid guessing unless you can eliminate at least two options. Category 3 questions (multiple correct answers, no negative marking) should always be attempted. A disciplined approach of skipping uncertain Category 1/2 questions often outperforms random guessing.
Strengthen Class 11 Chapters
A significant portion of WBJEE — unlike JEE Main — draws heavily from Class 11 topics such as Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Thermodynamics, Chemical Bonding, and Sets & Functions. Many students underestimate these and lose easy marks.
Exam-Day Tips
Carry your WBJEE admit card, a valid photo ID, and two passport-size photographs. Use a HB pencil for OMR darkening and bring a spare. Read each question fully before marking. Attempt Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) in the order given — do not skip between papers mid-session. Stay hydrated and reach the centre at least 45 minutes early.
WBJEE Counselling Process
WBJEE Counselling — Conducted by WBJEEB
Post-result counselling for WBJEE 2025 is managed by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) itself through its official centralised counselling portal. The process covers admissions to engineering and technology programmes at government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges in West Bengal, as well as Jadavpur University and participating private universities.
- Result and Rank Publication: WBJEEB publishes the merit list (category-wise: General, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B) on its official website. Candidates must note their WBJEE rank and category rank carefully.
- Counselling Registration: Eligible candidates register on the WBJEEB counselling portal using their WBJEE application number, date of birth, and registered mobile/email. A non-refundable counselling registration fee (approximately ₹500 for General, ₹400 for reserved categories) is paid online during this step.
- Document Upload and Verification: Candidates upload scanned copies of required documents — Class 10 marksheet (date of birth proof), Class 12 marksheet, WBJEE rank card, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, and a recent passport-size photograph.
- Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates log into the portal to fill and arrange their preferred institute–branch combinations in order of priority. The board typically allows 2–3 days for this. After finalising, candidates must lock their choices — unlocked choices are automatically locked at the deadline.
- Seat Allotment Rounds: WBJEEB conducts multiple allotment rounds (generally 3–4 rounds). Allotment is based on WBJEE rank, category, and choice order. Results for each round are published on the portal.
- Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment: Allotted candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee (partial tuition fee, approximately ₹5,000–₹10,000 depending on institute type) online within the stipulated window to hold the seat. Failure to pay forfeits the allotted seat.
- Upgradation Option: Candidates who accept a seat can opt to participate in subsequent rounds for a better preference, or freeze their current allotment. Upgrading in the next round is automatic based on choices already locked.
- Physical Reporting and Document Verification: After the final allotment, candidates must report to their allotted institute within the prescribed dates, carrying original documents and their allotment letter. The institute verifies originals and collects the remaining admission fee.
Note: Candidates who also qualify in JEE Main can participate in JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs simultaneously, but must manage deadlines carefully as WBJEE and JoSAA counselling timelines often overlap in June–July.
