BITSAT Preparation Tips

Subject-wise Recommended Books

For Physics, use H.C. Verma's Concepts of Physics (Vol 1 & 2) for conceptual clarity and D.C. Pandey for practice. For Chemistry, N.C. Avasthi for Physical Chemistry, O.P. Tandon for Organic and Inorganic, and NCERT textbooks are essential for direct questions. For Mathematics, R.D. Sharma for basics and Arihant's Skills in Mathematics series for advanced problem-solving. For English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning, refer to Wren & Martin and standard aptitude guides by R.S. Aggarwal.

Study Schedule

Divide your preparation into three phases. Phase 1 (months 1–4): Build NCERT-level fundamentals in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Phase 2 (months 5–7): Solve BITSAT-level problems, focusing on speed since 390 questions must be attempted in 180 minutes. Phase 3 (months 8–9): Full-length mock tests and revision. Aim to solve at least 12–15 full mock tests before the exam.

Important Topics

  • Physics: Modern Physics, Optics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Laws of Motion
  • Chemistry: Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Organic Reaction Mechanisms, p-Block Elements
  • Mathematics: Limits & Continuity, Definite Integration, Probability, Matrices & Determinants, 3D Geometry
  • English & Reasoning: Reading Comprehension, Analogies, Syllogisms — do not neglect these as they are easier scoring sections

Mock Test Strategy

Use the official BITS Pilani mock test platform and previous-year papers from 2019–2024. Time yourself strictly at 3 minutes per question average. Analyze errors after each mock — BITSAT has a –1 negative marking per wrong answer, so avoid random guessing. Attempt the 12 bonus questions only if you finish all 360 within time.

Exam-Day Tips

BITSAT is conducted in online (CBT) mode across multiple slots. You can choose your exam slot and date during slot booking. Reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes early. Rough sheets are provided — use them for calculation-heavy Physics and Math questions. Do not waste time on a single difficult question; mark it and move on. The English and Logical Reasoning sections are relatively quick — complete them fast to save time for Math and Physics.

BITSAT Counselling Process

BITSAT does not use JoSAA, MCC, or CSAB counselling. BITS Pilani conducts its own centralized admission process independently for its four campuses: Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai.

  1. Result Declaration: BITSAT scores are declared shortly after the exam window closes (typically June). Candidates can view their scores on the official BITS Admissions portal at bitsadmission.com.
  2. Iteration Registration (Choice Filling): Eligible candidates who meet the minimum cutoff (generally 75% aggregate in PCM at 12th and a valid BITSAT score) must register for the admission iterations. During this phase, candidates fill and rank their preferred degree programmes across all campuses (e.g., B.E. Computer Science at Pilani as first choice, B.E. Electronics at Hyderabad as second, etc.).
  3. First Iteration Allotment: BITS Pilani releases the first seat allotment list based on BITSAT score (merit) and candidate preferences. Seats are allotted strictly on score, with higher scores getting priority choices.
  4. Accepting/Upgrading the Allotted Seat: Candidates offered a seat must pay the partial admission fee (approx. ₹60,000–₹75,000) online within the deadline to accept the seat. Candidates can also opt to participate in subsequent iterations for a higher-preference programme.
  5. Second and Third Iterations: BITS typically conducts 2–3 allotment iterations. In each round, candidates who paid the fee are considered for upgrades based on vacancy. New candidates who score better due to the extra-time bonus questions may also enter the merit list.
  6. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must upload self-attested documents including 10th and 12th marksheets, category certificate (if applicable), and photo ID to the portal.
  7. Reporting to Campus: After final allotment, candidates report to their allotted BITS campus during the designated reporting dates (usually July–August) with original documents and pay the remaining semester fee.

Note: BITS Pilani does not accept JEE Main scores for B.E. admissions. BITSAT score is the sole criterion. Candidates from the 12th board toppers (first rankers in each board) may get direct admission regardless of BITSAT score.
