Exam Structure Overview
VITEEE 2024–2025 is a Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted online across authorised test centres across India. The exam spans 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) with no sectional time limits, allowing candidates to manage time across all five parts freely. The total paper carries 125 questions for 125 marks — each question is worth 1 mark with no negative marking for wrong answers, making it strategically advisable to attempt all questions.

Question Format and Marking Scheme
All questions are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options and one correct answer. Each correct response awards 1 mark. There is no deduction for incorrect or unattempted responses. The test interface is bilingual (English and Hindi) for select sections and is fully computer-navigable, allowing candidates to review and change answers within the allotted time.
Important Exam Day Notes
- Candidates must report to the test centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time
- Rough work can be done on the sheet provided at the centre — no physical calculators permitted
- VITEEE scores are used exclusively for admission to VIT campuses (Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, AP)

Subject-wise Recommended Books
For Physics, use H.C. Verma's Concepts of Physics (Vol 1 & 2) for building fundamentals, and D.C. Pandey's objective series for practice. For Chemistry, P. Bahadur's Numerical Chemistry covers physical chemistry calculations well, while NCERT Class 11 & 12 Chemistry textbooks are essential for organic and inorganic sections. For Mathematics, R.D. Sharma and S.L. Loney's Trigonometry are standard references; for Aptitude, R.S. Aggarwal's Quantitative Aptitude is highly recommended.
Study Schedule
Dedicate at least 3–4 months for focused preparation. Allocate 2–3 hours daily to Physics and Mathematics each, and 1–2 hours to Chemistry. Reserve the last 2–3 weeks exclusively for revision and full-length mock tests. Since VITEEE covers English and Aptitude as separate sections (each worth 5 marks), spend 30 minutes daily on these — do not neglect them as they are easy scoring areas.
Important Topics

Mock Test Strategy
VITEEE is a computer-based test with no negative marking, so attempt every question. Use VIT's official mock test portal, which simulates the actual interface. Take at least 15–20 full-length mocks. Aim to complete the 125-question paper in under 140 minutes, leaving time for review. Track weak topics across mocks and revisit them before the next test cycle.
Exam-Day Tips
Carry your VITEEE hall ticket and a valid photo ID to the exam centre. Since the exam is online and held in slots across April, check your specific slot time carefully. Reach the centre at least 45 minutes early for biometric registration. Since there is no negative marking, never leave a question unanswered — guess if necessary. Stay calm during the Aptitude and English sections; they are shorter and scoring.
VITEEE Counselling Process
VITEEE counselling is conducted entirely by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) through its own centralised online counselling portal — unlike JEE Main (JoSAA/CSAB) or NEET (MCC), there is no external government counselling authority. The process typically runs from May to July for the academic year starting in August.
- Results & Rank Card: VIT publishes VITEEE results and rank cards on the official portal (viteee.vit.ac.in). Candidates can download their rank card and check category-wise cutoffs.
- Counselling Registration: Eligible candidates must register for counselling online by logging into the VIT admissions portal and paying the non-refundable counselling registration fee (approximately ₹1,000–₹1,500 for 2024–25). Registration is mandatory even if you received a provisional offer letter.
- Choice Filling & Locking: Registered candidates fill and lock their preferred combinations of Programme + Campus (Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, Amaravati, AP). Choices must be locked within the stipulated window — unlocked choices are not considered.
- Seat Allotment Rounds: VIT typically conducts 2–3 allotment rounds. Allotments are made purely on VITEEE rank and choice preferences. Results for each round are published on the portal.
- Acceptance & Fee Payment: Candidates who receive an allotment must log in, accept the seat, and pay the semester fee online (approximately ₹1.0–₹1.5 lakh as first instalment, varying by programme) within the deadline. Non-payment within the window cancels the allotment.
- Document Verification: After fee payment, candidates must upload scanned copies of required documents — Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, transfer certificate, community/caste certificate (if applicable), and ID proof — for online verification by VIT admissions staff.
- Reporting to Campus: Physically report to the allotted VIT campus on the designated date with original documents for final admission confirmation and hostel/room allocation. Failure to report forfeits the seat and fee.
Note: VIT also runs a separate direct admissions process for candidates with JEE Main scores above specified percentiles, offering programme choices without appearing in VITEEE. Check the official VIT admissions bulletin for category-wise cutoff ranks specific to each campus and programme for 2024–25.
