Important Notes on Fees

• GATE Stipend: GATE-qualified students admitted to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded institutions receive a monthly MoE stipend of ₹12,400 throughout the programme (subject to satisfactory academic progress). This effectively makes M.Tech at these institutions nearly free.
• Fee Waivers at IITs: Students from SC/ST categories and economically weaker sections receive full or partial fee waivers at IITs, in addition to the GATE stipend.
• Self-Financed vs GATE-Funded: Private colleges admitting without GATE do not provide the MoE stipend. The total cost is significantly higher, and placement outcomes are generally weaker compared to GATE-route admissions at government institutions.
• Sponsored Candidates: Working professionals sponsored by PSUs, defence organisations (DRDO, armed forces), or government departments have their fees paid by the sponsoring organisation. They do not receive the MoE stipend.
• Net Cost at IITs: With fees of ₹50,000 - 2 Lakh and a stipend of ₹12,400/month (≈ ₹3 Lakh over 2 years), the net cost of M.Tech at an IIT is effectively negative — students earn more in stipend than they pay in fees.
