NEET UG Preparation Tips

NCERT is the bible for NEET. Master NCERT Biology thoroughly. Practice Physics numerical problems regularly. Revise Chemistry formulas and reactions daily.

NEET UG Counselling Process

NEET UG counselling is conducted at two levels: All India Quota (AIQ) counselling managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under DGHS, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and State Quota counselling conducted by respective state counselling authorities.

  1. MCC AIQ Registration: After NTA declares NEET UG results, qualified candidates register on the MCC website (mcc.nic.in). Registration requires payment of a non-refundable registration fee (approximately ₹1,000 for General; ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD). AIQ covers 15% of seats in government medical colleges and 100% of seats in central and deemed universities (AIIMS, JIPMER included separately).
  2. Choice Filling & Locking: Candidates fill and lock their preferred college-course combinations. Choices are ranked in order of preference. Thorough research of college NIRF rankings, infrastructure, and previous year cutoffs is advised before locking.
  3. Seat Allotment Rounds: MCC conducts multiple allotment rounds (typically Round 1, Round 2, and a Mop-Up Round). Results are published on the MCC portal. Candidates must log in and accept or reject the allotted seat within the stipulated window.
  4. Fee Payment & Reporting: On accepting a seat, candidates pay the security deposit online (approximately ₹10,000–₹2,00,000 depending on college type) and report to the allotted institution with original documents within the deadline.
  5. Document Verification: Original documents required include NEET UG scorecard, Class 10 & 12 mark sheets and certificates, category certificate (if applicable), domicile/nativity certificate, passport-size photographs, Aadhaar card, and transfer certificate.
  6. State Quota Counselling: For the remaining 85% state quota seats, candidates must separately register with their respective state counselling authority (e.g., DGME for Tamil Nadu, CETCELL Maharashtra, KEA Karnataka, AACCC Assam). Eligibility criteria such as domicile requirements vary by state. State rounds run concurrently or after MCC rounds.
  7. Stray Vacancy Round: Any seats remaining vacant after regular rounds are filled through an additional stray vacancy round conducted by MCC and state authorities.
  • Candidates allotted a seat in Round 1 who wish to upgrade must retain their seat and participate in Round 2 simultaneously.
  • Deemed and private university seats (100% quota) are allotted through MCC counselling after AIQ government seats.
