IIT Kharagpur Launches New M.Tech Programme in Quantum Computing and Communication
The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has announced the launch of a new postgraduate programme — M.Tech in Quantum Computing and Communication — to be offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering starting from the academic year 2026–27.The programme will have an initial intake of 20 students and will focus on quantum algorithms, quantum cryptography, and photonic communication systems.

B.Tech Programmes: Candidates must have passed the 12th examination (or equivalent) and qualified JEE Advanced. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are mandatory at the 12th level. Only top JEE Advanced rankers are eligible for admission through the JoSAA counselling process. There are no age restrictions for appearing in JEE Advanced.
M.Tech and M.Sc Programmes: Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields are eligible. A valid GATE score is required for most M.Tech programmes. M.Sc programmes may have specific eligibility criteria varying by specialization. Candidates from institutes like NITs and other centrally funded institutions are also considered through the COAP portal.
MBA Programme: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. A valid CAT score and performance in the selection process (group discussion and interview) are required for final admission.
