IIT Delhi Admissions: Merit-Based Selection Through JEE Advanced
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi follows a competitive merit-based admission process for undergraduate engineering programs. The primary entrance examination is JEE Advanced, one of India's most rigorous engineering entrance exams. Aspiring candidates must first qualify the JEE Main examination and be among the top 2.5 lakh qualifiers to become eligible for JEE Advanced. The institute conducts admission rounds through the Joint Seat Allocation (JoSAA) process, where candidates are selected based on their JEE Advanced rank and category.
Eligibility for IIT Delhi includes completing 12th standard or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Candidates must have obtained a minimum aggregate score in their qualifying examination and meet the age criteria as specified by the admission authorities. IIT Delhi offers undergraduate programs in various engineering disciplines including Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and others, providing world-class education aligned with global standards.
The admission process typically begins in June-July with the announcement of JEE Advanced results. Candidates participate in JoSAA counseling where seat allocation occurs based on merit, choice of branch, and availability. IIT Delhi is renowned for its rigorous academic curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and excellent placement opportunities. For detailed information about specific admission timelines, branch-wise seat availability, and application procedures, prospective students should visit the official IIT Delhi website and JoSAA portal for the most current guidelines and announcements.
Eligibility Criteria
B.Tech Programmes: Candidates must have passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Admission is merit-based through JEE Advanced. Candidates must qualify JEE Main first (minimum cutoff percentile varies by category) and appear for JEE Advanced. Category-wise relaxations apply as per Government of India norms for SC, ST, and OBC candidates.
M.Tech Programmes: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with CGPA 6.0 or above is required. Admission is based on GATE scores, JEE Advanced marks (certain categories), or performance in departmental entrance examinations conducted by IIT Delhi. Relevant discipline match is considered.
MBA Programme: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates must appear for Common Admission Test (CAT) and qualify with minimum percentile scores. Shortlisted candidates undergo Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
M.Sc and M.Des Programmes: Bachelor's degree in relevant field with minimum 50-55% aggregate marks. Admission determined through merit list, entrance examination scores conducted by IIT Delhi, or valid national-level test scores.
