West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS/WBNUJS), Kolkata, established in 1999, is ranked among the top 5 law schools in India by NIRF with NAAC A+ accreditation. NUJS is unique among NLUs for offering a B.Sc. LL.B. in Criminology & Forensic Science alongside the traditional B.A. LL.B. programme.

Undergraduate Programmes

NUJS offers two 5-year integrated law programmes through CLAT UG:

• B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) - 133 seats, NUJS's flagship programme
• B.Sc. LL.B. (Hons.) in Criminology & Forensic Science - 64 seats, a distinctive programme blending legal studies with forensic science and criminology, including laboratory components

30 seats in BA LL.B. and 18 in B.Sc. LL.B. are reserved for West Bengal domicile candidates.

Postgraduate Programme

The 1-year LL.M. programme admits ~42 students through CLAT PG, with 30 seats reserved for WB domicile. Five specializations are available: Corporate & Commercial Law, International & Comparative Law, Criminal & Security Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Law & Technology.

Doctoral Programme

The Ph.D. is offered in Law, Political Science, History, and interdisciplinary areas. Admission is through NRET (NUJS Research Entrance Test) + interview. UGC-NET/JRF holders are exempted from the written test.

Fee Structure & Scholarships

B.Sc. LL.B. fees are higher than B.A. LL.B. due to laboratory charges. Hostel accommodation is compulsory for first-year students. SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates receive reservation and fee concessions as per government policy.

Eligibility & Admission Process

CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs, typically in December. NUJS also conducts its own entrance exam for two-year Master's programmes and doctoral admissions, scheduled separately.
