B.Arch

India has several hundred CoA-approved B.Arch colleges. Quality varies significantly - from premier institutions like SPA and IIT architecture departments to smaller colleges with limited resources. CoA approval is the minimum quality threshold.

SPAs are dedicated architecture institutions with a strong design focus. IITs offer architecture within a broader engineering ecosystem, providing interdisciplinary exposure. Both are excellent - SPAs for pure design depth, IITs for technical integration.

Studio facilities are critical - they are where most architectural learning happens. Visit the campus if possible and assess the design studios, workshop facilities, material libraries, computer labs, and model-making spaces.

Location provides context for architectural study. Cities with diverse architecture (old and new), active construction, and proximity to notable buildings offer richer learning environments. Urban locations also facilitate site visits and firm internships.

B.Arch typically requires mandatory internship at architecture firms during the programme. The quality of internship opportunities available near the college and through its alumni network is an important factor when choosing an institution.
