AFMC Pune Admissions: NEET-Based Selection for Military Medical Officers
Armed Forces Medical College Pune admits students primarily through the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination. Eligible candidates who qualify NEET are selected through a merit-based process conducted by the Ministry of Defence. Admission to AFMC Pune is highly competitive, with only a limited number of seats (approximately 152 MBBS seats) available annually. The college offers a five-and-a-half-year MBBS program followed by a compulsory one-year internship, after which graduates are commissioned as officers in the Indian Armed Forces.
Candidates aspiring to join AFMC Pune must meet specific eligibility criteria, including a minimum aggregate score in NEET, Indian citizenship, and qualification from an Indian school board (CBSE, ICSE, or state boards). Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are compulsory subjects at the 10+2 level. All applicants are required to undergo medical and psychological fitness tests, as the programme is designed to prepare future military medical officers. Candidates must also be willing to sign a service bond, committing to serve in the Armed Forces for a specified period after completing their medical training.
Selected candidates at AFMC Pune undergo rigorous military training alongside academic medical education, preparing them for leadership roles in military healthcare. The college is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MHUS) and maintains high academic standards recognized nationally. Upon graduation, AFMC Pune alumni serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Corps, gaining invaluable experience in military medicine, trauma care, and field operations. The selection timeline typically follows the NEET counselling calendar, with merit lists published by the Defence Ministry.
