Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata, established in 1931 by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis, is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. ISI is internationally renowned for its contributions to Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Quantitative Economics. The institute offers highly specialised programmes - B.Stat (Hons.), B.Math (Hons.), M.Stat, M.Math, M.S. (Quantitative Economics), M.Tech (CS, QROR, Cryptology), and doctoral research - all admitted through the prestigious ISI Admission Test. PG programmes are tuition-free with monthly stipends.
Undergraduate Programmes
ISI offers B.Stat (Hons.) at Kolkata and B.Math (Hons.) at Bengaluru - 3-year specialised degrees with ISI's distinctive research-focused curriculum. Tuition is ₹1,00,000/semester with a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 for all admitted students. Full tuition waivers for SC/ST/PwBD and income-based waivers for others. IMOTC (International Mathematics Olympiad Training Camp) awardees are exempt from the written test.
Postgraduate & Doctoral Programmes
PG programmes (M.Stat, M.Math, M.S. QE) are tuition-free with ₹8,000/month stipend. M.Tech programmes (Computer Science, QROR, Cryptology & Security) cost only ~₹40,000 total with ₹12,400/month stipend. Ph.D. scholars receive ₹37,000/month (JRF) rising to ₹42,000/month (SRF). All admitted via ISI Admission Test or GATE.
